Margin is profit over price; markup is profit over cost. Enter cost and price to get both at once with the multiplier, work backwards from a target margin to the price that achieves it, and read a conversion table showing that a 50% markup is only a 33% margin. Names the error plainly: quoting one while budgeting on the other always errs in the same direction.
