With no flows every path lands identically because multiplication commutes; add either and the spread between the luckiest and unluckiest sequence becomes enormous, with some orderings ending at zero. Explains the asymmetry directly: an early fall destroys a retiree by selling units that are never there for the recovery, and helps a saver for exactly the same reason.
